Nothing is Certain…

9 Mar

…except death and taxes, right?  Well, tomorrow I come face to face with at least one of these certainties – the Board of Review for the taxes on our house.  It seems obvious that when house values are falling across the board statewide, our State Equalized Value (SEV)  – which is supposed to approximate 50% of the value of the house – should also fall.  Apparently this is only obvious to those of us who pay the taxes, and not those assessing them – right now, our SEV would value our house approximately $10400 more than the appraisal came in at.  $10,000 isn’t small beans in the house value world.  So, tomorrow I’m up against the board of review arguing our cause.  Wish me luck!

How to deal with the stress of property taxes?  Today the solution was cookies and a walk.  I managed to get out of work in time to walk over to pick up Austin from daycare – about 3.25 miles round trip, not to shabby!  My hips are sore at the end of the day – I swear the baby is lying sideways in there and doing his/her best to stretch out my hips to make more room for itself.  Walking is getting more difficult, which is a bummer because the weather is finally coming around to allow for it!

This cookie was probably the highlight of my day:

Quick Cookie for One:

Mix…

1/4 cup oats

1 T brown sugar

1T chocolate chips

1T raisins

2 T flour (can use whole wheat)

1/4 t baking powder

1/4 t vanilla

1/2 T ground flax

pinch salt

2 T water

microwave for 45-50 seconds.

Fantastic cookie for one – for well under 200 calories!

I’m certain that this is an excellent way to end your day!
