Green Smoothie

These are oh-so-popular in the blog world.  Here is my version – and, more importantly, my method for making this without a fancy blender and needing hours of time spent scraping spinach into the “blend zone.”

1 banana, frozen if you wish

1/2 cup milk (can by any kind – soy, almond, hemp, cow…) or more if you want it runnier – I like mine thick!

two big handfuls of spinach (fresh!) – probably around 2 cups

1-2 T flax

sprinkle cinnamon (optional)

Here is the important part:

Spinach goes into the blender FIRST!  Sprinkle in the flax and cinnamon, and then top with your banana.  The banana acts as a “weight” to draw the spinach into the “blend zone”.  Pour in your milk, turn on the blender, and watch the green magic happen!  I swear you don’t taste the spinach – it ends up more of a banana-y milk drink.  If you’re in a chocolate mood, you can add chocolate syrup or cocoa powder and a sweetener.
